Can you believe that I am wearing a men’s buttoned up shirt?
Yes, men’s wear has become my new obsession over this summer. In particular from H&M since their XS – Small in men’s is a perfect fit on my body. When I want to create an oversized street style then I go for a  medium or large in men’s. I have a future post coming up on the blog where I style a men’s shirt into a relaxed but elegant look. I am wearing a light coat since the beginning of the summer we had some cool nights and I always like to leave the house prepared.

MOM JEANS OBSESSION

Is this the end of the skinny jeans? In the past few years mom jeans have been making their way back into the fashion scene.
This style of jeans was very popular in the 80s and 90s worn typically by middle-aged women but now everyone is rocking it. A lot of these jeans are coming back with frayed or distressed bottoms which I think makes them look cool and more youthful.
I am seeing people wearing the mom jeans or the straight leg jeans more frequently than the super tight skinny jeans. That is why I ask myself if perhaps this is the end of the skinny jeans since they have been the most popular thus far.
I still love skinny jeans and I don’t think they are out of style. I think I will always wear them. Although I said the same thing about flare or bell bottom jeans which I don’t wear anymore.
I am still getting used to mom jeans since I am a denim fan and I like trying different styles.

Hello readers!
I know it has been a while but I am back! Another short trip. It seems that lately my trips have become small getaways. But I enjoy quick vacations too. The only problem is the “I don’t want to leave” feeling that I get when I have a great time on vacation.
Well I have been to New York City before but every time I come to the Big Apple I always have new experiences in terms of the places I visit and the restaurants I go to. There is a lot to do in New York City and that’s  why I love this city.
Today my pictures were taken at the famous restaurant Gallow Green. This rooftop bar at the top of the McKittrick Hotel offers a breath taking scenario with its earthy atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, delicious food and live music. For just $30 you can enjoy all you can eat brunch on the weekends and live music. I would recommend making a reservation. I went in the fall and the restaurant was very busy I can only imagine how busy this place might be summer time.

Outfit:
Ladies, here is a tip for those cool days: Wear a fitted dress under a dress when its cold.
I like to look good but being warm is my priority. Today was a mild fall day but since I am wearing a denim dress I decided to wear the black fitted dress underneath for comfort and warmth. Keep in mind the material and style of the dress you choose to wear since a lot of dresses can’t be worn with a dress underneath.
Another tip: Don’t be afraid of alterations.
If you really like something, and believe that you will wear often but perhaps it needs to be altered do so if you think will be worth it. I had to take in two sizes down in the waist of my dungaree dress but I was very with the result. A lot of times I end up altering my clothes which can be expensive sometimes. But I alter pieces that I really like and can’t find it in my size.

Slip Dress a.k.a Cami Dress over T-shirt Trend
Where have you been if you haven’t seen this trend? Fashion is all inspired by “night wear” lately. Just when we thought that slip or cami dresses were just for bed, designers were inspired to bring this fabric from the comfort of wearing at home to the streets.

This trend was very present in the 90s and now is back. You can be versatile with it by wearing it with not just high heels, but also with runners or even flat sandals. The slip dress is a very comfortable item to wear because of its fabric. It is nice and soft. But the down part is that this fabric gets wrinkly very fast. So you will need to iron it before wearing it, and as you sit down throughout the day this material tends to get even wrinkled.

I would say that when I saw this trend I wasn’t in love with it because I was seeing celebrities wearing it with t-shirts that weren’t fitted. I wouldn’t wear this loose dress with a loose t-shirt underneath. That is why I paired it with a more fitted t-shirt.

Remember to always put your spin on things you don’t need to stick so much with the trend.
As I always say FASHION HAS NO RULES!

Who watched the Miss Universe yesterday? First and foremost let me congratulate Iris Mittenaere from France for the big win last night. Canada wasn’t bad either. Our candidate was able to make it to the top 10 so that was very good as well.

Miss Universe gowns are to die for. The only down part about gowns like the ones seen on the competition is finding a place to wear them. Can we wear a gown like those ones twice? That will always be a question on my mind. Perhaps at a wedding or so but I picture people that have those super high end dresses perhaps don’t wear them often.

Lets talk about my African Couture dress, sorry ladies you will not be able to find this dress. Yes it was custom made for me just like many items I own in my closet. I  want to thank my amazing African friend for sending me this beautiful dress. She lovingly told the tailor to make it long and fitted in the waist just the way I like it.

I will be wearing this dress to weddings and perhaps some galas.

Where can you find African prints fabrics? Well depending on where you live African prints are sold sometimes in African beauty hair supply stores. In downtown Toronto for example people can buy the African prints and take it to a tailor to custom make into something that expresses their style. The beauty of custom designing your own dress is that it becomes your own unique creation and that only you have it. I will be tagging some online stores on my Instagram where you can purchase African prints.

Q & A – The Girl Behind Zani’s Styles

IMG_0032

It has been an exciting first year running my fashion blog. I have learned a lot this year. While I was running this blog, I was asked a lot of different questions by my social media followers, and by my friends. This post is where I will answer the most asked questions.

IMG_0133

  1. Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
♦ It all depends on how I feel. I don’t draw inspiration from just one person. Things going on in my life, in the world, the weather, etc all have an impact on how I feel about myself. How I feel about myself is what influences my fashion style.
  2. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a fashion blog?
♦ First of all, I would say consistency is the key. This is something that I am still working on. Write all your ideas on a piece of paper. Everything you think of make sure to write it down. Have in mind the target or the focus of your blog. For example if your blog is about food make sure you stick to that. Another piece of advice would be to get a good camera that takes neat pictures. Be unique, don’t compare yourself to others. Be creative and don’t give up. Continue to make posts and keep working on improving yourself.
  3. What is your favorite clothing store?
At the moment if I had to pick one I would have to say GUESS. Most of the time when I go in there I end up buying something.

4. What is the most difficult thing about having a blog?
♦ Committing to a steady routine of taking pictures, blogging my fashion and taking advantage of good weather conditions, this includes; good lighting and a good background. Making the blog appropriate to all audiences. I always have many ideas for fashion and  it is hard to pin myself down to just one look. Making this blog easy for women to draw ideas from the looks posted is another thing that I have difficulty with, because my desire is for women to relate and afford the fashion I showcase in Zani’s Styles.

5. Give a few fashion tips for women.
♦Be Flexible. Be willing to try new styles and experiment more. Don’t limit yourself to one look.
Redefine what style means to you. Let your clothes be a reflection of your personality. If you have good style make sure you have a good personality to go with it.

World MasterCard Fashion Week – Toronto – Improvise

IMG_2613

Events like this require a really nice outfit. I had no idea what I was going to wear today. Ladies, how many times we have a place to go and “nothing” to wear? So this was me today! The green dress underneath my skirt it’s actually a bandage dress. I got the green bandage dress a long time ago at H&M. Eventually the dress started getting short on me and I love the style. Many thought that I was wearing a top or a body suit. It’s a dress!!! With fashion I believe comes creativity. We need to find ways on how to improvise our clothes when they are getting old or too short. I only get rid of my clothes after wearing them multiple times.

Rachel Sin collection really stood out for me today. Of all the shows that I have seen this week I felt like her line was the most colourful. Colours in her Spring Collection 2016 that stood out were corals, orange and white.

Hope you guys enjoy the post.

Essentials (Part 1)

Hey everyone! Here comes my favorite post thus far. I am so happy to show you Essentials (Part 1). These are things I think every woman should have in their closet. Every woman should have a basic t-shirt. To add a little flare to it, I usually tie it at the back or the front. Leather pants are a must have in the closet! You can always dress it down to have a more casual feel, or dress it up to a more professional look. If you know me well, you know how much I love leather. The nude heel is something that recently became an essential in my closet, due to the neutral trends influenced by fashion.
